Plastic Identification Information

Thermoplastic Abbreviations

CK Polymers are experts in the field of plastic recycling and have facilities and resources across the UK. We provide a range of plastic waste management and recycling services for all plastic types.

To aid with polymer identification for plastic recycling purposes, many plastic product manufacturers have taken to marking their products with a plastics identification marking system, but this only covers the major plastic groups which are currently being recycled. Many other plastics types are classed as "Others" in the system. More ↓

Plastic Recycling Marking Systems

To aid with polymer identification for plastic recycling purposes, many plastic product manufacturers have taken to marking their products with a plastics identification marking system outlined in the table below.

It is not yet a legal requirement to mark plastic products but many manufacturers (perhaps expecting further legislation relating to producer responsibilities in) have taken to using the coding system devised by the American Society of the Plastics Industry to identify larger plastic parts (e.g. in cars and electrical goods) and for packaging items.

Marking Material SPI Acronym Marking Material SPI Acronym
Polyethylene Terephthalate Polyethylene Terephthalate PETE Polypropylene Polypropylene PP
High Density Polyethylene HDPE Polystyrene Polystyrene PS
Polyvinylchloride (PVC) Polyvinylchloride (PVC) V All other resins All other resins OTHER
Low Density Polyethylene Low Density Polyethylene LDPE

Below is a more detailed list of those other polymers types. These are all thermoplastics or thermoplastic rubbers and as such can be recycled. If you need assistance in identifying any plastic waste that you may have for disposal / recycling or just want to know what we are prepared to pay for your surplus materials then please contact us now and we will be more than happy to help.
